As an avid outdoor enthusiast, I am deeply worried about some of the proposals in the reconciliation bill, in particular the amendments to sell off public lands in Nevada and Utah. I would like to see land sell offs removed from the package and I would like you to join your colleague Representative Zinke in opposing public land sales.
Public lands are vital to our health, environment, and economy. They should not be used as a way to pay for tax cuts--either through outright sale or through increased development. The larger reconciliation bill is also not aligned with my values as someone who cares about the outdoors. Cutting the fees that industry pays to use our resources makes no sense. Beyond that, any near-term returns will be dwarfed by the impacts to the resources that support our community’s way of life. I oppose provisions to let developers buy their way around the courts, measures to ramp up logging and oil & gas development, and rollbacks to locally-led conservation and planning efforts.
As your constituent, I want to see a more balanced approach—one that maintains strong local input, supports long-term economic opportunity, and keeps our public lands conserved, open, and accessible for all Americans.
Thank you for your consideration.
