Support the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act in Conference

To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 12

The Senate just passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act with an 89-10 vote, and I need you to fight for this bill as it heads to conference committee. This is the most significant housing legislation in decades, and families in our community desperately need it. The typical home now sells for $400,000, far beyond what median families can afford. We're facing a 4 million unit shortfall between available housing and demand. This bill tackles the crisis from multiple angles: it streamlines environmental reviews for infill development, eliminates the permanent chassis requirement for manufactured homes (saving $5,000-$10,000 per unit), and expands the public welfare investment cap from 15% to 20% so banks can invest more in affordable housing. The Senate version also restricts investors who own 350 or more homes from buying additional single-family properties. Large investors already control significant market share, and families trying to buy their first home shouldn't have to compete with Wall Street. Don't let this bill get watered down in conference or delayed by unrelated demands. Housing affordability affects everyone, regardless of politics. Push for a strong final version that keeps the Senate's investor restrictions and gets this to the president's desk.
