Urgent Action Needed: Protect SNAP Access During Federal Shutdown
To: Gov. Evers
From: A constituent in Madison, WI
October 29
I’m writing as a Wisconsin resident deeply concerned about the looming threat to food access for millions of Americans due to the federal government shutdown. With SNAP benefits set to expire on November 1, I urge you to immediately request contingency funding from the USDA to ensure uninterrupted support for Wisconsin families.
Over 42 million people nationwide rely on SNAP, including hundreds of thousands here in Wisconsin. These benefits are not optional—they are life-saving. They reduce hunger, improve health outcomes, and stabilize households. The USDA has warned that without contingency action, states will be unable to issue November benefits, leaving vulnerable families without the means to feed themselves 5 Calls.
As governor, you have the power to act. I respectfully ask you to:
• Request USDA contingency funds immediately to continue SNAP distribution in Wisconsin.
• Publicly affirm your commitment to protecting food access for all residents, regardless of federal gridlock.
• Coordinate with other governors to amplify pressure on federal agencies and demand swift action.
This is not just a policy issue—it’s a moral one. No one should go hungry because of political dysfunction. Please stand with Wisconsin families and take decisive action to safeguard SNAP access.
Thank you for your leadership and your commitment to justice.
