END ICE, INVESTIGATE ICE, PROTECT THE PEOPLE FROM A ROGUE AGENCY
To: Sen. Budd, Rep. Foxx, Sen. Tillis
From: A verified voter in Lenoir, NC
January 8
I implore you to do your duty and protect your people from ICE. End the agency. Decrease its funding. Conduct a full investigation by Congress into ICE. I also write to you mourn with me the death of Renee Good. A death is tragedy that changes the world. A death by the hands of government violence is a tragedy that should compel us to act.
ICE is not a government agency that protects the people. We can see it as a rogue government agency that is violent against the people. Another option is to see it as an agency that feels brazen to be violent because there is no oversight by Congress. There is no other way to see ICE. I will be appalled if you still regard them as a government agency that is to continue their ways.
ICE agents murdered Renee Good in Minneapolis. I watched the video. She was driving away and the agent murdered her. He needs to be brought to justice. Each day he is not jail, our communities are unsafe.
Murder under the color of law. That’s how ICE is choosing to operate. The agency does not want the people to know the full story.
Journalist Lila Hassan had to go to the courts to compel compliance ICE to fulfill her FOIA request. 23 people were killed by ICE in 6 years. 59 use of force cases in 26 states and 2 territories. ICE does not document use of force events to their own protocol. They hold records in secrecy. No transparency.
ICE is past the point of reform. Congress has the power of the purse. Constrict any funding to ICE operations. Fund the immigration system where it is needed the most. This means more processing agents for petitions, adjustment of status applications, affirmative asylum applications, work authorization, etc. The backlog can be addressed by you today!
Subpoena all ranking officials by ICE to testify for the People to see. A full oversight investigation into ICE. See for yourself that ICE cannot longer exist.
A death is tragedy that changes the world. A death by the hands of government violence is a tragedy that should compel us to act.
There are many ways you can act now for your people. If you would rather choose not to act in light of all this, then resign.
In the name of God, do your duty.
