Now that Trump’s tariffs have been conclusively determined to be illegal, it’s time to take meaningful action to correct this injustice. The businesses and consumers who bore the burden of these unlawful tariffs deserve prompt restitution of the funds that were improperly collected. I urge you to support the legislation being introduced by Senators Ron Wyden of Oregon, Ed Markey of Massachusetts, and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire. Their bill would require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to issue refunds for the tariffs within 180 days and to pay interest on the refunded amount. This approach not only ensures fairness but also restores confidence in the rule of law and the integrity of our trade enforcement system. These tariffs disrupted supply chains, inflated prices, and strained American manufacturers and small businesses. Now that their illegality has been confirmed, prompt restitution is the least the federal government can do to make things right. Supporting this bill would demonstrate a commitment to fairness, accountability, and economic justice. I hope you will stand with Senators Wyden, Markey, and Shaheen and ensure that Americans who were harmed by these illegal tariffs are fully compensated.
