I am writing as a concerned Montanan to urge you to publicly condemn President Trump’s promise to issue $5,000 "Trump Dividend" checks to American citizens strictly on the condition that Republicans retain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections. Tying direct federal payouts to a specific election outcome is a line that should never be crossed in a democratic republic. Regardless of party affiliation, governance must be grounded in fiscal responsibility and ethical standards, not political leverage. Promising over $1 trillion in taxpayer-funded payouts contingent on a party victory undermines the integrity of our electoral process, blurring the boundary between public policy and direct vote-buying. Montanans value independence, fairness, and strict accountability in our leaders. Allowing taxpayer dollars to be used as a political bargaining chip sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations of any political stripe. I ask that you stand up for the rule of law, protect the integrity of our elections, and formally denounce this proposal. Our democracy relies on representatives who prioritize principle over partisan loyalty.
