Investigate Trump, DHS, and ICE, and use every tool the new majority provides to pursue accountability for the past two years of damage. These midterm results were not a polite request for bipartisan cooperation. They were a demand to repair what has been broken and to stop those who broke it. Hakeem Jeffries called this "a red, white and blue moment" and said voters want to "get things done." He's right about the second part, but getting things done means using the power voters just handed over. Incoming Oversight Chairman Robert Garcia already understands this. His message to Trump, DHS, and ICE on election night was two words: "Lawyer up." That is the correct read of this mandate. The new Oversight and Judiciary committees have been preparing for months. The investigations, the hearings, the articles of impeachment, the legislation to fix what's been gutted. None of that requires waiting for permission. Voters sent a historic, diverse, and determined class of lawmakers to office precisely because they were willing to fight. Honor that by fighting.
