The One Big Beautiful Bill Act poses significant risks to the wellbeing of Americans and the nation's long-term fiscal health. The nonpartisan analyses indicate the bill would increase federal deficits by over $3 trillion over the next decade, contrary to claims of deficit reduction. Millions stand to lose health coverage due to cuts to Medicaid and changes to eligibility criteria. While providing tax relief to some, the largest benefits heavily favor the wealthiest Americans. Furthermore, the bill's energy provisions are projected to raise household energy costs rather than lower them as claimed. Given these concerning impacts on healthcare access, income inequality, energy affordability and fiscal responsibility, I urge reconsideration of this legislation. Policies should prioritize fiscal discipline, expanding access to affordable healthcare and relief targeted towards working and middle-class families. A more balanced approach is needed to address the nation's challenges equitably and sustainably.
