After the House of Representatives initially voted down, H.R. 9495, Republicans tried a second time to pass it. This time, they unfortunately succeeded. The bill is now headed to the Senate, and I want to make my expectation very clear that you do not support this bill.
This bill allows Trump a wide, unchecked authority to label nonprofits as terrorist supporting organizations. This would strip them of their tax exempt status, effectively crippling any group Trump deems a threat.
This bill is anti-American; it spits in the face of due process, and ignores freedom of speech and expression. If you vote in favor of this bill, you vote in favor of authoritarianism.
As your constituent, I expect you to vote against this bill, to include voting against any legislation it’s tacked onto. I’ve already noted grave failings in your ability to stand up to Trump and stand up for your state. Should these failings continue, I will be expressing my disappointment with my ballot.
I look forward to your response, and to your vote. Thank you
