Reject SB1298, protect digital rights and LGBTQ+ online access

To: Rep. Gutierrez, Rep. Mathis

Title: SB1298 Threatens Digital Rights and Queer Online Spaces Internet censorship and age verification requirements for online platforms pose a significant threat to freedom of expression and access to information, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals. SB1298 - Internet; material harmful to minors, if enacted, could enable the suppression of queer content under the guise of shielding minors. However, such measures disproportionately impact marginalized communities by restricting access to vital support networks, educational resources, and opportunities for self-exploration. We must safeguard the open internet as a space for diverse voices and reject measures that enable censorship under any pretext. I urge you to reject SB1298 and instead champion policies that protect digital rights and foster an inclusive online environment for all.
