TAX THE WEALTHY TO SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN!!

To: Rep. Gilliam, Gov. McMaster, Sen. Martin

From: A constituent in Union, SC

July 31

Stop treating democratic socialist policies like a threat and start treating them like the floor. We just minted the world's first trillionaire while working families can't afford childcare, healthcare, or rent. The DSA has already claimed 38 electoral wins this year, and Zohran Mamdani's mayoralty in New York is proving these ideas work. Your constituents are watching, and they want you to champion bold reforms — wealth taxes, universal healthcare, expanded public services — not defend the status quo. The fearmongering about "socialism" is a tired script. Harry Truman called it out in 1952: it's a scare word hurled at every advance ordinary people have made. Libraries, Medicare, Social Security, public schools — Republicans called all of it socialism too. Our middle class boomed after World War II precisely when taxes were at their highest. The Nordic model delivers the happiest, healthiest populations on Earth. These aren't radical experiments; they're proven tools. The reforms being proposed today — capping childcare costs, taxing extreme wealth, guaranteeing healthcare — are modest given the scale of the crisis. Rep. Ro Khanna calls a wealth tax an "anti-revolution tax," a way to save the system from itself. That framing is exactly right. Get on the right side of this. The people demanding change aren't asking for the moon; they're asking for a dignified life. That should be the starting point, not the ceiling.
