The fearmongering about "socialism" is a tired script. Harry Truman called it out in 1952: it's a scare word hurled at every advance ordinary people have made. Libraries, Medicare, Social Security, public schools — Republicans called all of it socialism too. Our middle class boomed after World War II precisely when taxes were at their highest. The Nordic model delivers the happiest, healthiest populations on Earth. These aren't radical experiments; they're proven tools. The reforms being proposed today — capping childcare costs, taxing extreme wealth, guaranteeing healthcare — are modest given the scale of the crisis. Rep. Ro Khanna calls a wealth tax an "anti-revolution tax," a way to save the system from itself. That framing is exactly right. Get on the right side of this. The people demanding change aren't asking for the moon; they're asking for a dignified life. That should be the starting point, not the ceiling.
