I am writing to urge you to oppose a dangerous slate of internet bills, including the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), the App Store Accountability Act, and the SCREEN Act. While proponents claim these bills protect youth, they actually endanger them. Mandating age verification forces companies to collect and store massive amounts of sensitive personal data from everyone, including minors. Rushing these systems guarantees inevitable data breaches that will expose children's private information to malicious actors. Furthermore, age-gating perversely groups unverified adults directly with minors in the same digital spaces, making it easier for predators to identify and target actual children. Beyond endangering kids, broad online ID checks and the SCREEN Act destroy digital anonymity for all users. Forcing individuals to hand over government IDs to third-party vendors creates massive security vulnerabilities. It also threatens to cut vulnerable communities off from life-saving online support networks and educational resources. Additionally, I urge you to oppose any efforts to reform or sunset Section 230. This law is the cornerstone of online free speech. Without it, platforms would be forced into either overzealous censorship to avoid endless lawsuits or abandoning basic moderation entirely, drowning out everyday voices. We must not sacrifice privacy, security, and free expression under the false guise of safety. Please stand up for our digital rights and vote NO on KOSA, the App Store Accountability Act, the SCREEN Act, age verification mandates, and Section 230 rollbacks.
