Stop the Land Grab—Protect Forests, Water, and Democracy
I’m writing as a working parent and creative professional in rural Western North Carolina. We’ve been through disaster recovery. We know how much we rely on public lands and clean water to survive—not just to recreate.
This “Big Beautiful Bill” is neither. It’s a full-scale selloff of our nation’s most vital resources.
After the House pulled back 500,000 acres of public land, Senator Mike Lee quietly slipped 3.3 million acres back in. This is theft in legislative clothing. It gets worse:
They plan to sell the land within the first 30 days—with no public comment.
If Trump removes monument protections, they’ll unlock another 13.5 million acres.
These lands supply clean drinking water for 180 million Americans—including major cities like LA, Atlanta, Seattle, and Denver.
Forest Service lands generate $13.6 billion annually and support over 200,000 jobs.
This is a short-term land grab for private gain—likely already pre-arranged. And it’s being done fast, quietly, and without public input.
This is outrageous. It’s dystopian. It’s dangerous.
Public lands are not for sale. Water is not a commodity to auction off to the highest bidder—especially not when communities like mine still struggle to access clean, safe, affordable water.
I’m asking you to do everything in your power to stop this bill. Remove the public land sale provision. Hold public hearings. Demand transparency.
If you vote yes on this, you are voting to privatize water, gut ecosystems, and undermine the very infrastructure that supports rural and urban communities alike.
We will not forget who stood up—or who sold us out.
