Restore Utah's June Declaration to LGBTQ+ Pride Month

To: Gov. Cox

From: A constituent in Sandy, UT

June 3

Replacing Pride Month with "Fidelity Month" was a mistake, and the right move now is to say nothing at all. Governor Cox recognized LGBTQ+ Pride Month in 2021, 2022, and 2023 — and Utah was better for it. Issuing a declaration that implicitly frames LGBTQ+ Utahns as a threat to faith and family is not a values statement. It's a political one. Marina Lowe of Equality Utah said it plainly: LGBTQ+ people are people of faith and family too. Pride Month is about love, acceptance, and inclusion — values that belong in Utah just as much as anywhere else. If the Governor won't restore the Pride Month declaration, then silence is the more honest and dignified choice than a proclamation designed to signal disapproval of our neighbors.
