April 25
I am an Iowa constituent writing to urge you to take immediate action in response to explosive new evidence in the Amazon price-fixing case.
On April 20, 2026, California Attorney General Rob Bonta released unsealed court documents containing internal Amazon emails that show the company directly pressuring major brands — including Levi’s and Hanes — to force competitors like Walmart and Target to raise their prices. Amazon’s own representatives wrote things like “I am very determined to help you hunt the disrupters in the market.” This is not alleged behavior. These are Amazon’s own words, now part of the public record.
This conduct harms every American consumer, including Iowans who depend on competitive pricing for everyday goods.
You have been a leader on antitrust enforcement throughout your career. You co-authored the American Innovation and Choice Online Act specifically targeting this kind of abuse. You fought to keep the DOJ’s San Francisco antitrust field office open. You pushed the FTC to enforce the Robinson-Patman Act just this past January. This moment calls for that same leadership.
I am asking you to take three specific actions:
First, make a public statement calling out Amazon’s conduct as documented in the unsealed April 20 evidence.
Second, write a formal letter to the DOJ Antitrust Division and the FTC demanding a federal investigation into Amazon’s pricing coordination with vendors and competing retailers.
Third, use your authority as Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman to convene a hearing, bringing Amazon executives and antitrust experts before Congress to answer for this conduct under oath.
The evidence is in writing. The harm is real. Iowa families deserve a senator who will act on both.
Thank you for your service and your attention to this matter.
