Impeach Trump for Inciting Insurrection and Violating the U.S. Constitution

To: Sen. Smith, Rep. Omar, Sen. Klobuchar

From: A constituent in Minneapolis, MN

May 2

We, the undersigned citizens, respectfully petition for the impeachment of Donald J. Trump for committing high crimes and misdemeanors, as outlined in Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution. Grounds for Impeachment: 1. Incitement of Insurrection (14th Amendment, Sec. 3): On January 6, 2021, Trump incited a violent assault on the U.S. Capitol by promoting false claims of a stolen election, urging followers to “fight like hell,” and failing to intervene for hours as the attack unfolded. This constitutes a direct assault on the peaceful transfer of power. 2. Subversion of a Free and Fair Election: Trump pressured Georgia’s Secretary of State to “find 11,780 votes,” promoted false electors in swing states, and attempted to weaponize the Department of Justice to cast doubt on the 2020 election. These acts represent a blatant abuse of power and a betrayal of his oath of office. 3. Obstruction of Justice (Mueller Report): The Mueller Report documented at least 10 instances of potential obstruction, including efforts to fire Special Counsel Mueller, influence witnesses, and conceal evidence. While DOJ policy barred indictment, these actions meet the constitutional standard for obstruction. 4. Violations of the Emoluments Clauses: Trump used the presidency for personal profit by maintaining control of the Trump Organization, accepting payments from foreign and domestic government entities, and holding official events at his properties. These actions violate Article I, Section 9 and Article II, Section 1. 5. Witness Intimidation and Retaliation: Trump has repeatedly threatened whistleblowers, prosecutors, judges, and political critics. He has encouraged harassment of election officials and others who challenged him, undermining the rule of law and democratic participation. 6. Ongoing Threat to Democracy: Since leaving office, Trump has continued to spread election lies, endorse political violence, and pledge authoritarian policies if re-elected. His public statements and private conduct suggest a clear intent to dismantle democratic safeguards. Conclusion: No person is above the law. We urge the House to act on its constitutional duty and hold Donald Trump accountable. Impeachment is not only justified—it is essential to protect American democracy.
