Co-sponsor Kaine Resolution
To: Rep. Smith
From: A constituent in Auburn, WA
June 19
The United States' confrontational stance towards Iran is deeply concerning and risks escalating into an unnecessary war that would endanger American lives and destabilize the region. I urge you to co-sponsor Senator Kaine's war powers resolution to ensure a transparent debate and vote takes place before the use of military force against Iran. Engaging in yet another protracted conflict in the Middle East is not in our national security interests. The American people want no part in a catastrophic war that could have unimaginable costs and unintended consequences. Congress must fulfill its constitutional duty and prevent an ill-advised rush to war without its explicit authorization. A measured diplomatic approach through reinvigorated nuclear negotiations is the prudent course of action to de-escalate tensions and avoid the horrors of armed conflict. The stakes are too high to bypass Congress's constitutionally-mandated role to declare war. I implore you to support this crucial resolution upholding Congress's war powers and averting an unwarranted war.
