I am writing to express my strong concern regarding the recent changes proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency to its formaldehyde risk assessment. The revisions would nearly double the amount of formaldehyde considered “safe” to inhale, despite evidence showing that the chemical contributes to elevated cancer risks and other serious health effects.
Formaldehyde is widely present in everyday products and environments, and weakening the scientific basis for assessing its risk threatens public health for workers, children, and communities overburdened by exposure. Rolling back protections in response to industry influence undermines trust in our regulatory system and could have long-term consequences for cancer prevention and environmental safety.
I urge you to oppose policies that reduce health-protective standards and to support legislation that ensures EPA decisions are grounded in the best available science and transparent processes that prioritize people’s health.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
