Reject anti-DEI bill SB1694 undermining diversity in higher education

To: Gov. Hobbs, Sen. Sundareshan, Rep. Mathis, Rep. Gutierrez

March 1

Opposing Discriminatory Anti-DEI Bill SB1694 SB1694, titled "Higher education; withholding state monies," appears to be an anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) bill. It seeks to withhold state funding from higher education institutions that provide diversity training or support culturally specific student organizations. This undermines efforts to promote an inclusive campus environment and equitable access to resources for underrepresented groups. Such legislation perpetuates systemic barriers and harms the ability of universities to foster a diverse and welcoming academic community. Stripping funding from DEI initiatives is antithetical to the fundamental values of higher education. I urge you to reject this misguided bill and uphold the principles of equity, inclusion, and intellectual freedom that public universities were established to uphold.
