The government has wrongfully deported a Maryland resident, Mr. Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, to El Salvador, violating his due process rights. Despite having legal immigration status and a U.S. citizen wife and child, he was removed based on an admitted "administrative error." A federal judge has ordered his return by midnight tonight, a decision upheld by the appeals court which stated the government has no authority to deport people lawfully present without due process. However, the administration is appealing this order to the Supreme Court, making the unacceptable argument that courts cannot compel the President to engage in foreign diplomacy needed to facilitate Mr. Abrego Garcia's return. This disregards the fact that his deportation itself was unlawful and an injustice that must be rectified. I urge you to call on the administration to comply with the judicial orders and work promptly to bring this American resident back home to his family. Failure to do so would be a reprehensible violation of his constitutional rights and human dignity.
