Protect AmeriCorps

To: Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Saint Petersburg, FL

April 11

I’m writing to urge you to oppose any proposed cuts to AmeriCorps and instead support sustained—and ideally expanded—funding for this vital national service program. Thirteen years ago, I served as a member of AmeriCorps NCCC. That year changed my life. Through service projects that took me across the country—from rebuilding homes to supporting education programs and nonprofits—I discovered not only a passion for helping others, but also a deep connection to communities I never would have otherwise known. That experience set me on a path of public service that led me to become a public school teacher, a role I’ve embraced as my calling ever since. AmeriCorps does more than fund projects—it cultivates citizens. It gives young people the opportunity to develop skills, build empathy, and form lasting bonds across cultural, political, and geographic divides. In a time when our country feels increasingly fractured, programs like AmeriCorps are essential in helping to build bridges through shared purpose and meaningful service. Cutting AmeriCorps would mean turning away thousands of young people who are eager to serve their country and contribute to their communities. We should be investing in this future, not dismantling it. Please protect AmeriCorps funding. Let’s ensure that future generations continue to have the opportunity to serve, grow, and strengthen our nation from the ground up. Thank you for your time.
