I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in Oklahoma. As you are undoubtedly aware, our state has seen a troubling rise in legislative efforts that directly harm LGBTQ+ individuals. The passage of laws such as the so-called "Women’s Bill of Rights" (HB 1449) has created unnecessary barriers for transgender and nonbinary Oklahomans, denying them dignity and access to public spaces.
Additionally, the Oklahoma legislature has considered over 50 bills targeting LGBTQ+ rights, including restrictions on gender-affirming healthcare and policies that penalize educators for acknowledging students' identities
These legislative actions do not reflect the values of fairness, equality, or respect that should define our state. Instead, they contribute to a hostile environment that puts LGBTQ+ individuals—especially youth—at greater risk of discrimination, exclusion, and violence. The American Civil Liberties Union has tracked over 575 anti-LGBTQ bills nationwide this year alone, demonstrating the alarming scale of these attacks
As an elected official, you have the power and responsibility to stand against these harmful policies. I urge you to publicly denounce legislation that seeks to erase or marginalize LGBTQ+ individuals and instead advocate for inclusive policies that protect all Oklahomans. Your leadership in this matter is not only necessary—it is a moral imperative.
I ask that you take action by:
1. Opposing any future bills that restrict LGBTQ+ rights.
2. Supporting initiatives that promote inclusivity and equal protections.
3. Using your platform to affirm the dignity and rights of LGBTQ+ constituents.
Oklahoma should be a place where all individuals, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, feel safe and valued. I hope you will take a stand and ensure that our state moves forward, not backward, in the fight for equality.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and to seeing meaningful action taken on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community.
