We must not withdraw from the Paris climate accords

To: Rep. Raskin, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Takoma Park, MD

July 26

I write this evening to ask you and your colleagues to prevent the US from withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement. Instead of letting Trump withdraw the country again, put forth a bill requiring the US to remain and let Republican MOCs be on record voting no. This week, the ICJ determined that nations can be held liable for their contributions to climate change. The Trump admin’s actions — including but not limited to gutting the EPA and existing environmental protections, shutting down support for alternative energy, and cutting consumer subsidies for electric vehicles — quantifiably contribute to warming the planet. The US should stay in and live up to the Paris agreement, and any future more stringent agreements, or risk rightfully being held accountable for harming the lives and homes of the planet’s most vulnerable. It was never moral or just to extract today’s energy from our children’s planet. Now it is no longer rational or safe.
