I am writing as an Idaho constituent with urgent opposition to HR 7114 and deep concern about the values it represents.
At its core, this legislation appears to move our country away from foundational American principles—due process, restraint of government power, and the protection of civil liberties. Policies that encourage fear, informant-style enforcement, or expanded punitive authority undermine the trust that must exist between the people and their government.
History offers clear warnings. Systems that normalize surveillance, incentivize accusations, or elevate state power over individual rights have led societies down dark paths before. HR 7114 raises troubling echoes of those moments in history—including the kinds of tactics used in authoritarian regimes such as Nazi Germany—where fear and state power were allowed to override liberty, accountability, and humanity. America was built in direct opposition to those ideas.
Idaho values individual freedom, local control, fairness, and limited government. We believe public safety must be achieved without sacrificing constitutional principles or creating policies that erode civil trust. I urge you to seriously consider whether HR 7114 aligns with the values you are sworn to uphold and the long-term consequences it may carry for our country.
