I am writing as your constituent in Tucson, Arizona to express my sincerest hope that you will do everything in your power to protect the US Department of Education from privatization and annihilation during Trumps next unfortunate term in office. I was born here in Tucson and benefited greatly from my upbringing and education in the public schools in our city. I now see my two daughters in the same public schools and thriving, thanks to academic intervention and support under the IEP and Special Education programs. These public schools did not leave my children behind. And I am eternally grateful. We need to keep funding our public schools and the teachers that work so hard to educate our children. We need to keep supporting special education for those who struggle, like my children have. Their grades are up and they have developed the intrinsic drive to do well and succeed in school that every parent hopes for. I owe so much of that to these public school programs. Of course, there is always the lingering concern about gun violence in their schools. I worry every day. A parent shouldn’t have to worry if their child is going to make it through the school day, and a child shouldn’t have to worry if a gunman is going to enter their classroom at any moment. These are basic rights- to learn and meet one’s potential, and to do so without fear of violence. I beg you to please stand up to Trump and his Project 2025 BEFORE he gets a foothold. We are counting on you to have steel spines and fortitude to ensure our kids don’t fall through the cracks, or much worse.
Thank you for representing our voices.
