The proposed changes to Ohio's marijuana law under SB 56 disregard the clear will of the voters who overwhelmingly approved recreational marijuana legalization in 2023. Nearly 60% of Ohioans voted in favor, demonstrating strong public support for the original legislation. Attempts to now restrict key provisions, such as reducing the allowed number of plants per household and prohibiting outdoor smoking, undermine the mandate expressed through that democratic process. While reasonable regulatory measures are understandable, these amendments go too far in constraining personal freedoms that voters explicitly endorsed. I urge you to respect the voice of the electorate and reject SB 56 in its current form. The legislators' role should be to faithfully implement the law as approved by the people, not unilaterally override it based on their own judgments. Upholding the integrity of direct voting initiatives is crucial for maintaining public trust in our political system.
