I am writing to express my outrage about the unconstitutional ICE operations currently underway in Minneapolis. Since early January, thousands of paramilitary ICE agents have occupied the city, terrorizing residents through excessive force, racial profiling, shootings, and invasions of schools and places of worship. These actions violate the constitutional rights of Minneapolis residents and represent a dangerous escalation of federal enforcement tactics. Minneapolis residents have exercised their First Amendment rights through peaceful protests to protect their neighbors, yet they have been met with violence from federal agents. Local officials are working to counter these operations and refute false claims from the federal government, but they need support from state leaders across the country. The Trump administration has refused to investigate the alleged murders that have occurred during these operations, leaving communities without accountability or justice. This crisis extends beyond Minneapolis. Similar ICE operation surges are occurring in other cities across the United States, made more dangerous by ICE's expansion of hiring with reportedly diminishing standards for recruiting and training agents. What is happening in Minneapolis today could happen in our community tomorrow if we remain silent. I urge you to vocally oppose the atrocities being committed by ICE against the people of Minneapolis. Publicly condemn these unconstitutional operations and demand federal accountability for the violence inflicted on residents. I also demand that you take immediate steps to protect our community from a similar ICE invasion. This includes exploring legal measures to limit ICE operations within our state, protecting schools and places of worship from federal raids, and ensuring that local law enforcement does not cooperate with these unconstitutional tactics. The people of Minneapolis need our solidarity, and our community needs proactive protection. I expect you to take a clear public stance against these operations and implement concrete measures to safeguard our residents' constitutional rights.
