Investigate the White House's Politically Motivated Cancellation of $7.5B in Clean Energy Grants
To: Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
July 25
You need to launch a formal investigation into the White House's deliberate cancellation of $7.5 billion in clean energy grants based purely on how states voted in 2024. This isn't speculation — a Department of Energy lawyer confirmed in court documents that 284 grants were terminated because the recipient states voted for Kamala Harris and have two Democratic-caucusing senators. The administration's own filing states the cancellations were not based on programmatic, statutory, cost-reduction, or performance-based factors. That is the government punishing citizens for their political choices.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright publicly denied any political motivation. That denial is now contradicted by his own department's legal filings. This is the kind of abuse of executive power that demands congressional accountability. If using federal funds as a weapon against political opponents doesn't warrant a serious investigation, I don't know what does. The American public deserves answers, and you have both the authority and the obligation to demand them.
