Restore America's Standing with Democratic Allies

I am writing to express deep concern about the rapid deterioration of trust between the United States and our traditional democratic allies. Recent actions by the Trump administration are causing unprecedented damage to relationships that have anchored American security and prosperity for over 75 years. The evidence of this erosion is concrete and alarming. France has removed U.S. videoconferencing platforms from all government offices, affecting 2.5 million public employees. Germany's Schleswig-Holstein moved 44,000 employees off Microsoft platforms to open-source alternatives. Denmark, Switzerland, and Austria are implementing similar moves. EU senior official Henna Virkkunen stated that Europe's dependence on American technology "can be weaponized against us." Most significantly, NATO has stripped the United States of command of all three operational-level Joint Force Commands for the first time in the alliance's history. The United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, and Poland will now rotate these commands. This represents a fundamental restructuring of Western defense architecture, driven by concerns about American reliability under Trump's leadership. Trump's statement that he would "encourage" Russia to attack NATO allies not paying enough prompted European Council President Charles Michel to call this "reckless" and serving "only Putin's interest." Senator Adam Schiff noted Trump is "more interested in aggrandizing himself and pleasing Putin than protecting our allies." Public opinion reflects this crisis: nearly three-quarters of Europeans now see the U.S. as "somewhat or very unreliable," with only one-in-ten expressing real trust in Trump's America to defend them. Canada is reconsidering F-35 fighter jet purchases due to concerns about defense infrastructure vulnerable to unpredictable American behavior. European allies are embracing "strategic autonomy" and building independent capabilities. I urge you to speak out forcefully about the damage being done to America's alliances and to support legislative measures that reassure our allies of America's commitment to democratic partnerships and collective security. Our national security depends on trusted relationships that are being systematically destroyed.
