Prosecute Rudy Giuliani for His Deadly Coverup of Ground Zero Air Quality Rudy Giuliani lied to New Yorkers about the air quality at Ground Zero after 9/11, and people died because of it. The 170,000 documents just released by Mayor Mamdani confirm what many of us already knew: there was an active coverup. I want to see Giuliani prosecuted for his role in deceiving the public and the thousands of first responders and volunteers who trusted him. The air was visibly thick and the smell lasted for weeks. Anyone who told the public it was safe to breathe was either ignorant or lying, and the documents make clear it was the latter. First responders and volunteers made life-altering decisions based on false assurances from city leadership. Many of them are now sick or dead. That is not a policy disagreement — that is a crime. Jon Stewart has spent years fighting for these people. Mayor Mamdani took a meaningful step by releasing these records. Now it's time for prosecutors and legislators to act. Hold Giuliani accountable. The people who ran toward the smoke deserved the truth. They still deserve justice.
