Demand Action on Hatch Act Violation at HUD

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

October 2, 2025

I am outraged by the blatant violation of the Hatch Act on the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) official website. The display of a banner criticizing the 'Radical Left' for the federal government shutdown is an egregious misuse of government resources for partisan purposes. This action directly contravenes the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from engaging in partisan political activities while on duty or using official resources. Secretary Scott Turner's cavalier attitude towards this violation, stating he is 'not worried at all,' is particularly alarming. It demonstrates a dangerous disregard for the ethical standards that safeguard the integrity of our civil service. This incident is not isolated but part of a troubling pattern within the current administration, including partisan emails sent to federal employees about the potential shutdown. The politicization of government communications erodes public trust in our institutions and must be addressed immediately. I urge you to take three crucial steps: 1. Demand a thorough investigation into this Hatch Act violation at HUD. 2. Call for the immediate removal of all partisan content from government websites and communication channels. 3. Introduce or support legislation to strengthen Hatch Act enforcement and prevent future abuses. The stakes are high. Taxpayer-funded resources should never be weaponized for political gain. Swift and decisive action is necessary to uphold the law and restore faith in the impartiality of our civil service. Our democracy depends on maintaining clear boundaries between government functions and partisan politics. I eagerly await your response detailing the specific actions you will take to address this critical issue and protect the integrity of our government institutions.
