You had a chance to stand with Epstein's survivors. They met with Todd Blanche, came away calling him "abrasive, condescending, and intentionally noncommittal," and begged the Senate to block his confirmation. You voted yes anyway. This isn't just about Blanche's past as Trump's personal criminal defense attorney — though that alone should disqualify him from leading the Justice Department. Under his watch, DOJ charged James Comey over a photo of seashells, went after the Southern Poverty Law Center, and opened a retaliatory investigation into E. Jean Carroll. Federal judges have repeatedly flagged this administration for defying court orders and misrepresenting facts. That's the department you just handed him. Survivors showed up. They told you exactly who Blanche is, and you failed these women by chosing Trump over them. I don't understand how a person can sit with that choice. I also have a hard time believing that any politician could be stupid enough to side with an adjudicated rapist over women who were victims of sexual abuse as CHILDREN. That used to be a career killer, but now it is standard fare for the Republican Party. Since you voted for Todd Blanche, the bare minimum you can do going forward is to use every available oversight tool to scrutinize Blanche's conduct as attorney general — and to answer publicly for this vote.
