Demand Public Defense of Rep. Ilhan Omar — and Schumer's Silence Must End

To: Rep. McClain Delaney, Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A constituent in Frederick, MD

October 23

I urge you to publicly and forcefully defend Rep. Ilhan Omar against the Trump administration's raid on her home and its reported campaign to denaturalize and deport her. Ethics lawyers, including former White House counsels, say the timing — 22 days before the midterms, with Omar on the ballot — violates the Hatch Act. This is a politically motivated abuse of federal power, and it is racist and Islamophobic in its targeting. Senator Schumer has said nothing. No statement, no post, no appearance. Even Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke out more forcefully than Democratic leadership. That silence is unacceptable — and it must end. I ask that you: Publicly defend Rep. Omar and name this raid for what it is: an illegal, politically motivated attack. Publicly call on Senator Schumer to break his silence and defend a Democratic colleague. Support oversight action — hearings and investigations into the raid and the denaturalization campaign. Silence in the face of a naked political prosecution is complicity. I expect you to speak out loudly and to pressure Senator Schumer to do the same.
