Utah has always supported immigrants as an asset to Utah. Continuing your mostly positive record on that matter is more important now than ever! In light of recent behavior of ICE officials across the country, it is clear that they are very nearly (if not fully) a rogue agency that does not cooperate with local law enforcement, follow laws, or respect human life. The recent FBI arrest of a judge when ICE entered state spaces improperly is a terrifying abuse of power by ICE and the Trump Administration. Additionally, revoking student visas at universities, deporting people suspected of crimes but without any due process, pulling immigrant kids from schools -- These things are all unamerican. I'm calling on you to publicly denounce the judge's arrest, and put guidance out for the state's employees and law enforcement similar to Governor Evers', to not cooperate with ICE unless they prove their identity, have judicial warrants, and so on. ICE has become in many ways much more of a threat to public safety than criminal illegal immigrants. They act with impunity and cruelty. I would ask you to watch the video the White House itself put out on its official Instagram showcasing rounding up, chaining up immigrants to put on a plane to go to an El Salvadoran prison. The title of the sound-dominated video callously and cruelly included the term "ASMR". My teenage son showed it to me and I initially thought it was a hoax, but a quick investigation showed it was real and was put out by Trump's White House. It was chilling, turned my stomach, and I couldn't finish watching. My son and his peers (including classmates who fear for themselves and their families) were very disturbed and scared. These immigrants had not been accused of crimes or given any due process. This is a humanitarian and democratic crisis. You must decry all these actions, governor! Please step up to the plate and let Utah show the rest of the nation how to lead on this issue - an issue of law and order but even more so of basic human decency.
