Oppose Proposed Executive Orders

To: Assembly Member Allen, Sen. Mukherji, Gov. Murphy, Assembly Member Ramirez

From: A constituent in Hoboken, NJ

January 21, 2025

I am writing as a concerned constituent regarding several proposed federal executive orders that would significantly impact our state's governance, economy, and communities. I urge you to use your authority as state leaders to protect our state's interests and residents from potentially harmful federal overreach. These proposed orders would create substantial challenges for our state government and local communities. For example, changes to immigration and asylum policies would directly affect our state's workforce, particularly in key industries such as agriculture, healthcare, and technology. The proposed elimination of birthright citizenship would create unprecedented administrative burdens for our state agencies and could affect thousands of families across our state. The environmental proposals are particularly concerning for our state. Rolling back pollution protections and expediting pipeline construction would limit our state's ability to protect local watersheds, air quality, and public health. The proposed national energy emergency declaration could override state-level environmental protections and clean energy initiatives that our state has carefully developed over years. The creation of a federal "External Revenue Service" focused on tariffs could impact our state's ports, transportation infrastructure, and international trade relationships, potentially affecting state revenue and local businesses that depend on international commerce. I urge you to: 1. Publicly address how these federal proposals would impact our state 2. Prepare contingency plans to protect state interests and resident rights 3. Work with other governors and state legislators to present a unified response 4. Consider state-level legislation to safeguard our residents and resources 5. Maintain state environmental standards and protections regardless of federal changes As state leaders, you have significant power to protect our residents from harmful federal policies. I request that you use your authority to: - Assert state sovereignty where appropriate - Protect state resources and programs - Maintain existing state-level protections for vulnerable populations - Defend our state's environmental standards Thank you for your attention to these critical issues. I would appreciate hearing your planned response to these proposed federal actions and how you intend to protect our state's interests.
