According to a U.S. Postal Service whistleblower is alleging the agency defied court orders while rushing to build a new ballot system that could reject thousands of mail ballots. The whistleblower says the Postal Service built the system in weeks, not the nine months to a year normally needed for a project of this complexity. Under the system described by the whistleblower, the agency would check ballot barcodes against information uploaded by state election officials. One bad barcode could cause the entire batch — potentially thousands of ballots — to be rejected. Aside from the fact that it is not the job of the federal government or the USPS to dictate how elections are run, there are laws about making major changes to the election process so close to an election. Making the massive changes to the mail in ballot process in such a short amount of time, like the USPS is doing under the direction of Donald Trump, is unacceptable. It will surely lead to voters being disenfranchised and to people's mail in ballots not getting counted. This, like the push to adopt the SAVE Act, is just another tactic from the current administration to tamper with free and fair elections. The power to run elections belongs to the states, not the President, not the USPS, not a single party. Our South Carolina Legislature and Governor must not allow these unlawful attempts to interfere with our elections!
