As your constituent, I am writing to urgently request that you stand up for our public lands and support the full restoration of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments.
The executive proclamations issued on July 13, 2026, to slash these monuments by a combined 92% represent a devastating blow to our state's natural heritage and outdoor legacy. Stripping protections from nearly 3 million acres of public land threatens irreplaceable cultural resources, priceless paleontological sites, and crucial wildlife habitats that belong to all Americans.
Furthermore, this sweeping reduction completely disregards the historic, hard-won tribal co-stewardship frameworks that Native Nations and federal agencies spent years building to protect these sacred ancestral spaces.
Public lands are a public trust, not bargaining chips for short-term exploitation. The vast majority of Western voters want these treasures left intact. I urge you to break from the corporate interests driving these rollbacks, defend the integrity of the Antiquities Act, and support immediate efforts to fully restore the boundaries of both Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante.
