I am deeply concerned about broadcaster’s use of digital rights management and other cost models with ATSC 3.0 that would make over the air TV cost money. Throughout television history, over the air TV has been one of the sources of entertainment and news available to every American that had a television and antenna. Allowing broadcasters to directly charge viewers, as some are proposing, would deeply undermine that equality.
Furthermore, broadcaster’s attempts to monitor what viewers are watching in over the air broadcasts in ATSC 3.0, strongly suggests an effort at targeting customers for additional revenue, akin to streaming services that similarly track.
I strongly suggest either limiting in law this predatory activity by the broadcasters or completely prohibiting the use of the ATSC 3.0 standard.
