Disappointed in your statement regarding ICE and protestors

To: Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Sebastopol, CA

June 9, 2025

I am incredibly disappointed by your statement regarding ICE and protestors in LA today: “If the Guard is needed to restore peace, the Governor will ask for it. But continuing down this path will erode trust in the National Guard and set a dangerous precedent for unilateral misuse of the Guard across the country. Violence must stop, and we need to keep the focus on protecting fundamental rights. There is nothing President Trump would like more than a violent confrontation with protestors to justify the unjustifiable.” If the guard is needed?? You know the California National Guard is not needed why even entertain that as a legitimate question? And worse, violence must stop…from who?? The protestors?? Your constituents are peacefully exercising their right to protest and bravely trying to protect their neighbors and family and friends from being snatched off the street by ICE. The only violence to call out is the violence of masked armed ICE agents who are terrorizing your constituents and gassing and running down anyone in their way. Or, as Bill Kristol said (really?? You couldn’t come with a better statement than Bill Kristol??): “You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse. Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.” I hope you do some reflecting because Californians deserve better.
