I am outraged that you would even consider a commutation of Tina Peters conviction and sentencing for blatant election interference by an elections official. Not only is this a flagrant abuse of your gubernatorial powers, but few to none of your supporting constituents supports this. If you proceed, not only will this leave a bad taste in my mouth, you will ruin any chance of a legacy for your long years of public service, and you’ll leave an indelible stain of disillusionment on the Colorado Democratic Party. Tina Peters broke the law. Period. Full stop. I don’t care if she’s 70 or 27, it doesn’t matter. I don’t care if another wasn’t sentenced more severely and thereby created some kind of judicial imbalance as you recently claimed. She not only broke the law, but abused her position of power as a county clerk. And she has never showed ANY remorse or contrition whatsoever. She needs to pay the consequences by complying with the guilty verdict given by a jury of her peers, and the sentence adjudicated by the Republican Judge that over saw her trial. If you commute her sentence, she’ll go on a very public ‘comeback tour’ with a renewed emphasis on more false claims of ‘stolen elections’. And every time we (those who voted for you) see her performances in the media, we will be further reminded and incensed by your egregious betrayal of the law and the lack of character that you’ll have demonstrated in the empowering of her entire charade. Your recent comments on this matter have stunned me, and as a gay man I’ve felt sickened that I could have ever been so proud to see you arrive as the first openly gay governor - only to now watch you shift into the same corrupted moral compass as Donald Trump. For the integrity of our State Elections and Country, please do some Soul Searching.
