I am writing as your constituent to demand that you uphold the promises made to voters and protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from any cuts.
These programs are not “entitlements” in the dismissive sense often implied in political rhetoric. They are earned benefits and essential services that Americans have paid into over a lifetime of work. With every paycheck, we contributed to Social Security under a clear social contract: that these funds would be there when we need them. Medicare and Medicaid similarly represent a collective commitment to care for our most vulnerable and to ensure dignity in aging, disability, and illness.
Recent statements from House Speaker Mike Johnson suggesting cuts to these programs are deeply concerning. Any effort to reduce, privatize, or weaken these systems is a direct violation of the trust placed in you by your constituents.
As someone who depends on the stability of these programs, I expect you to:
• Publicly oppose any cuts or restructuring that would reduce benefits or access.
• Reject budgets that prioritize tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of essential services.
• Defend the integrity of these programs as a core responsibility of government.
Balancing budgets on the backs of seniors, disabled individuals, and working families is unacceptable. Diverting public funds toward tax advantages for billionaires or costly foreign engagements while threatening vital domestic programs is not fiscal responsibility—it is a betrayal of the people you were elected to serve.
You were elected to represent us, not special interests. I urge you to act accordingly and make your position clear: Will you protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, or will you allow them to be undermined?
I will be watching your actions closely and will take them into account in future elections.
