Defend ActBlue and democratic processes against partisan overreach
To: Rep. Kean
From: A constituent in Westfield, NJ
April 28
The current administration's attempt to investigate and potentially dismantle ActBlue, a critical fundraising platform for Democratic candidates and causes, is a blatant abuse of power and an assault on the democratic process. The unsubstantiated claims of illegal foreign donations being funneled through ActBlue are not supported by evidence and appear to be a thinly veiled pretext for suppressing political opposition. This brazen act represents a dangerous escalation in the ongoing efforts to undermine free and fair elections in this country. It strikes at the heart of the First Amendment rights to free speech and association by directly threatening the ability of citizens to voice their political views and support their chosen candidates financially. Such an action cannot be tolerated in a functioning democracy. Defending ActBlue is not just about protecting a fundraising platform, but about safeguarding the fundamental right of the people to participate in the political process without fear of retaliation or suppression from the party in power. This authoritarian overreach must be resisted through all available legal means to uphold the constitutional principles that are the bedrock of American democracy. The health of the republic depends on it. Even Republicans must oppose this if we are to honor the Framers' idea of a government of laws, not of men.
