I am writing to express my deep concern regarding former President Donald Trump’s actions and to urge you to support initiating impeachment proceedings against him once again. His recent conduct demonstrates a blatant disregard for the rule of law, democratic institutions, and human rights. Notably, Trump has undermined the integrity of law enforcement agencies by dismissing independent inspectors general from 17 federal agencies without the legally required notice to Congress. These inspectors serve as nonpartisan watchdogs, and their abrupt removal threatens the checks and balances essential to our democracy. Furthermore, his recent pardons of individuals convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers during the January 6 insurrection have drawn criticism from major police organizations. The International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police have expressed that such pardons send a dangerous message, potentially emboldening others to commit similar acts of violence. Additionally, Trump’s proposal to detain immigrants at Guantanamo Bay is unprecedented and inhumane, weaponizing the U.S. military against vulnerable populations. His authoritarian ambitions are further evident in his public statements about seeking “retribution” against political opponents and expanding presidential power beyond constitutional limits. Given these developments, it is imperative to hold Mr. Trump accountable to uphold the rule of law and protect our democratic values.
