Denounce Trump's Threats Against Iranian Civilians

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Walkinshaw

From: A verified voter in Centreville, VA

April 8

I need you to publicly denounce President Trump's threats against Iran and his approach to this crisis. On Easter Sunday, Trump posted explicit threats on Truth Social promising to bomb Iranian power plants and bridges, infrastructure that would devastate civilians. Targeting civilian infrastructure violates international humanitarian law and the laws of war. Trump's escalation stems from his own decision to launch a coordinated war with Israel on February 28, which prompted Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Rather than pursue diplomatic solutions, he has chosen to threaten attacks that would harm noncombatants while mocking their faith by writing "Praise be to Allah" despite being Christian. This is not strategy. It's reckless provocation that puts American service members at risk and could ignite a wider regional war. Pope Leo XIV used his Easter message to call for peace through dialogue, not force. That should be our position too. Bombing civilian infrastructure is both immoral and illegal under international law. I expect you to speak out against these threats and push for diplomatic engagement instead of military escalation that will kill innocent people and destabilize the region further.
