Reject H.R. 9495 bill undermining civil liberties and dissent
To: Rep. Pelosi
From: A constituent in San Francisco, CA
November 19
As your constituent, I urge you to firmly oppose H.R. 9495, the bill that would grant the incoming Trump administration unchecked power to label any non-profit organization a "terrorist supporting organization" and strip it of its tax-exempt status without due process or justification. This legislation poses a grave threat to our democratic principles and civil liberties. Allowing the government to indiscriminately target and shut down dissenting voices, including think tanks, human rights groups, civil liberties organizations, universities, student groups, and civic engagement initiatives like Indivisible, would enable authoritarian overreach and stifle free speech. With Trump about to assume the presidency, it is deeply concerning to hand him such unbridled authority that could be weaponized against any entity that challenges his agenda. This bill requires no oversight, no evidence, and no mechanism for organizations to defend themselves. Empowering the administration to arbitrarily silence its critics is antithetical to the values of transparency, accountability, and freedom of expression that our nation holds dear. As a representative of the people, you have a responsibility to safeguard our democratic institutions and civil liberties from erosion. I implore you to stand firm against authoritarianism and reject any attempts to consolidate unchecked power. Vote no on H.R. 9495 and send a clear message that you will not enable the suppression of dissent or enable Trump's authoritarian impulses. Protecting our Constitutional rights must be the paramount priority.
