Publicly choose new House Democratic leadership
To: Rep. Wahab
From: A verified voter in San Lorenzo, CA
November 5
Now that We the People have won the House for you, We the People have two requests to make of you if you wish to earn our trust, support, and future votes.
The first is that you publicly call for an open process to choose new House Democratic leadership. No elected official — not even Hakeem Jeffries — should be coronated as leader or Speaker behind closed doors. We deserve to see our elected representatives genuinely hash it out together, bearing in mind the lives that are at stake if the reins are handed to someone who does not understand the threat that fascists pose to us. Fascist leaders are not allies with whom to work alongside, they are enemies to be held accountable.
The second request is that you publicly go on the record before you vote for a new House Democratic leader, to state who you will support for Speaker of the House and who you won't. If you truly have the interests of your constituents in mind, you should have no problem sharing your opinion on the matter publicly.
Open the process for choosing new House Democratic leadership, put your position on the public record before the vote, and vote like our democracy and lives depend on who you choose, because they do.
