Stop AEP

To: Gov. Youngkin

This APCo Rate Reduction Act aims to provide relief to customers during the high-usage winter months by reducing monthly bills, imposing a moratorium on interest, late fees, disconnection and reconnection fees, and preventing rate hikes from November through February. It requires APCo to file for lower fuel costs, propose alternative billing practices to ease seasonal burdens, and implement seasonal rates - all measures designed to minimize the impact of cold weather on electricity costs. The legislation also mandates the State Corporation Commission to consider public input during rate cases. This comprehensive approach acknowledges the financial challenges faced by utility customers and seeks to address them through various consumer-friendly provisions. Given the potential benefits to residential and commercial customers alike, passing this Act would be a prudent step towards making energy more affordable during peak demand periods.
