Urging Oversight and Opposition to Potential Invocation of the Insurrection Act

To: Gov. Lamont, Rep. Jensen, Sen. Berthel

From: A verified voter in Oxford, CT

April 8

I am writing to express urgent concern about recent developments pointing toward the possible invocation of the Insurrection Act on or around April 20th. This unprecedented use of federal military force for domestic purposes — particularly in response to peaceful protest or border policy dissent — poses an existential threat to civil liberties, the Constitution, and the democratic principles you swore to uphold. The reported troop build-up, executive orders, and rhetoric from the administration signal a clear and present danger. We have seen authoritarian regimes use such tools to criminalize dissent. We must not allow that to happen here. You represent our last line of defense. I urge you to: • Demand transparency from the Department of Defense and DHS about any plans to use the military domestically. • Speak out publicly to reassure the American people that peaceful protest and lawful assembly will be protected. • Prepare legislation or oversight hearings to limit or review executive power under the Insurrection Act. • Support legal action if civil liberties are violated under false pretenses. This is not a moment for caution. It is a moment for courage. Please do not rest until these threats are addressed and the rule of law is preserved for every American.
