Reject Inhumane "Laken Riley Act" on Immigration

To: Rep. Hudson, Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis

From: A constituent in Burlington, NC

January 7

This draconian immigration legislation threatens the basic rights and dignity of migrants, many of whom are already living in incredibly vulnerable circumstances. Mandating detention for undocumented individuals charged with relatively minor offenses like theft or burglary is an excessive overreaction that will lead to human rights abuses and exorbitant costs to taxpayers. Furthermore, it does nothing to address the underlying systemic issues driving migration in the first place. As your constituent, I urge you to vote against the misguided "Laken Riley Act" and instead work towards comprehensive immigration reform that provides a path to legal status, upholds due process, and treats migrants with the compassion and respect they deserve as human beings. Criminalizing and detaining people for minor offenses is antithetical to American values of justice and human rights. Please stand on the right side of history and reject this inhumane legislation.
