Checks and balances

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Subramanyam

From: A constituent in Manassas, VA

February 4

I am very concerned about the access Elon Musk has in the US Treasury. He does not hold a security clearance, he was not appointed by Congress, and he was not elected into a position that affords him access to the treasury or any other governmental department. While I can appreciate the idea that organizational coherence can improve government functioning, I am gravely concerned that recent efforts are making our lives less safe. The communications embargo in the CDC is dangerous as are the potential changes to medical information and practices. The lack of communication makes it impossible for communities to know if viruses and illness are trending too high. As an educator, I’m upset about the constant implication that teachers are indoctrinating students. With the increased presence of ICE in our communities, students and their families are fearful- this affects attendance and a student’s ability to learn. The ideas behind Project 2025 have been around for a while and Trump is surrounding himself with the people who crafted this legislation. No one should be surprised. This will be an exhausting period of time. The plan for the first 100 days is in Project 2025. The overreach of the executive branch is already horrendous. The American public needs Congress to insist on our American system of checks and balances and rule of law.
